EV Start-Up River Finally Launched its First E-Scooter Indie for Rs 1.25 Lakh

Bengaluru-based River, an electric vehicle (EV) start-up has unveiled Indie, its first electric scooter, at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1,25,000. The company has started taking bookings for the same and will begin the deliveries in August 2023.

River Indie boasts a power output of 6.7 kW, a maximum speed of 90 km/h, and a range of 120 km. There are three ride options: eco, ride, and rush. The electric scooter further comes with a gradability of 18 degrees. It has a 4 kWh battery that can be charged to 80% with a standard adapter in 5 hours. Two USB charging ports and the reverse parking assist function are additional features of the e-scooter. The company has launched the scooter in 3 distinct colour options - Monsoon Blue, Summer Red and Spring Yellow. 

Starting in Bengaluru in 2023, the start-up intends to introduce the e-scooter in three to five locations. According to Aravind Mani, co-founder and CEO of River, it will then expand to 50 locations within the following year.

Aravind Mani said, “As of now, we are setting up our distribution model and will start the sales in August. We want to improve the day-to-day lives of people through a design-first approach. Our first product, Indie, is a bold statement, combining two different offerings: utility and lifestyle. It will be the most sensible scooter with the right mix of practicality, capability, and style.”

Aravind Mani commented on raising funds, “We are constantly raising funds, and, so far, have invested $13 million in R&D and manufacturing.”

The river is focusing on second-generation EV consumers between the ages of 18 and 28 and anticipates 3,000–5,000 sales in the first year. The company's factory in Bengaluru, which has a yearly production capability of 100,000 units, will be manufacturing River Indie.
