Bikes, Scooters & EVs Sales Report April 2023- Overview

As the first month of FY2024 ends, here’s how the top 6 manufacturers in the Indian 2-wheeler industry performed. 

Hero MotoCorp: 3,86,184 units

Hero MotoCorp has been dominating the Indian 2W market for quite a while now. The company sold 5,02,730 units in Mar ‘23, reporting a 23.18% decline. Hero’s sales have slid by 3%, with 3,98,490 units in April 2022. 

Only a few weeks ago, the first images of the Harley-Davidson bike were leaked on the Internet, made in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp. Hero is gearing up to launch 2 new models in India as well. The company reported an export figure of 9,923 in April 2023.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI): 3,38,289 units

HMSI appears to be making a comeback with sales exceeding 300,000 units last month. The company has reported a significant 71.2% increase from its lower-than-average sales figure in March 2023 (197,512 units). In comparison to April 2022 sales (318,732 units), HMSI recorded a 6.13% growth. Furthermore, Honda exported 36,458 units in April 2023.

HMSI has recently undergone some managerial changes, with Tsutsumu Otani taking over as the new CEO, replacing the former Atsushi Ogata.

TVS Motor Company: 2,32,956 units

TVS Motor Co., based in Hosur, experienced a marginal decrease of 3.2% in sales numbers, as compared to its March 2023 sales of 240,780 units. However, in comparison to its sales figures for April 2022 (180,553 units), the company recorded a notable 29% surge. TVS exported 61,830 units in April 2023.

Bajaj Auto: 1,81,828 units

Bajaj Auto, located in Chakan, witnessed a growth of 19.3% compared to its sales figure in March 2023 (152,287 units). What's fascinating is that the company almost doubled its sales figures this April compared to April 2022 (93,233 units), recording an impressive growth of 95%. Additionally, Bajaj exported 106,157 units in April 2023.

Royal Enfield: 68,881 units

Royal Enfield improved its sales figures in April 2023, surpassing its March 2023 sales numbers of 59,884 units by 15%. The Chennai-based motorcycle manufacturer also saw a rise of 27.9% from its April 2022 figures (53,852 units). In addition to this, Royal Enfield exported 4,255 units in April 2023.

Suzuki: 67,259 units

Suzuki sold 67,259 units in April 2023, which indicates a decrease of 7.9% compared to its sales figure in March 2023 (73,069 units). However, in comparison to the previous year's sales figures for April, the company recorded an impressive growth of 23.8%.

In a recent milestone, Suzuki Motorcycle India, the Hamamatsu-based brand's Indian arm, rolled out its 7 millionth unit. Additionally, Suzuki India exported 21,472 units in April 2023.
