Japanese brands are slowly building their presence in India’s electric two-wheeler market. However, competition has become stronger during the first four months of 2026. Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha have together recorded 3,971 electric scooter wholesale units between January and April 2026. Suzuki currently holds the top position among Japanese brands. Moreover, the company stayed ahead of both Honda and Yamaha in wholesale and retail electric scooter volumes.
Suzuki became the highest selling Japanese electric scooter brand during January to April 2026. The company accounted for 57 percent of combined wholesale volumes among Japanese manufacturers. In addition, Suzuki also secured nearly 50 percent of retail sales during this period.
The company dispatched 2,261 units of the Suzuki e-Access electric scooter from its Gurugram facility. Moreover, retail deliveries reached 1,161 units during the same period. Suzuki entered India’s electric mobility space later than Indian manufacturers. However, early sales numbers show a strong start for the brand.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India secured second place among Japanese electric scooter brands. The company sold a combined 1,284 wholesale units of the Activa-e and QC1 between January and April 2026.
Moreover, Honda recorded 1,039 retail deliveries during the same timeframe. While Honda remains behind Suzuki, the company continues building its electric scooter presence across India.
Yamaha entered India’s electric scooter market in February 2026. The company dispatched 426 units of the EC-06 electric scooter over three months.
Retail deliveries currently stand at 140 units. However, Yamaha currently offers the scooter only in selected cities. Hence, wider market availability may help sales numbers grow further in coming months.
