Ola Electric has officially stepped into a new space with the launch of Ola Shakti, its first residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This move marks the company’s entry into India’s growing Rs 1 lakh crore energy storage market, which is expected to touch Rs 3 lakh crore by 2030.
This launch is a significant step for the company, as it expands its focus beyond electric two-wheelers. According to Ola Electric, the new BESS solution represents “a fundamental shift in how Indians access, control, and consume energy, as a portable, on-demand resource designed for modern Indian households, farms, and businesses.”
In the coming years, Ola Electric expects its annual BESS consumption to reach 5 GWh, showing its big ambitions in this space.
Bhavish Aggarwal, CMD, Ola Electric, said, “We have built world-class battery and cell technology for electric mobility. Ola Shakti extends that innovation to homes, helping them store and use clean energy intelligently.”
Aggarwal also explained that Ola Shakti is a natural next step for the company. It uses the brand’s 4680 cell technology, Gigafactory production setup, and Ola’s nationwide network as a ready sales and distribution system. This approach will help the company scale quickly without major additional investment.
Ola Shakti is the first fully indigenous residential BESS in India. It is designed, engineered, and made in the country using the advanced 4680 Bharat Cell. The system uses proven automotive-grade battery packs, making it both strong and efficient.
The modular design of Ola Shakti allows easy stacking and scalability. Its compact form ensures simple home installation and quick servicing, with easily accessible air filters.
These units can power air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, farm pumps, and communication devices. They also offer fast charging in just two hours and provide backup for up to 1.5 hours at full load.
