Ather has confirmed that its upcoming family electric scooter, the Konarc, will feature metal body panels. The company shared a video on social media in which its CEO used magnets on one of the electric scooter’s body panels. This gives a clear hint that Ather has used metal in at least some parts of the scooter’s body.
The Konarc will be a new product for Ather and will follow a different approach from the sporty 450 series. It will focus more on family users, comfort, convenience, and easy everyday riding. The company will launch the scooter on August 29 at Ather Community Day in Bengaluru.
The use of metal body panels could become one of the key highlights of the upcoming Ather Konarc. Ather’s latest social media video shows its CEO placing magnets on a body panel, confirming that the panel uses a magnetic metal material.
However, the company has not confirmed whether all the body panels will use metal or only selected parts. More details will come during the official launch.
Metal body panels can give a scooter a more solid feel. For instance, the Honda Activa has used metal body panels on several generations, while the Bajaj Chetak also uses metal bodywork. Therefore, Ather could use this approach to give the Konarc a more premium feel.
Although metal panels can improve the feel of a scooter, they can also add weight. This is important for a family electric scooter because riders often look for easy handling and simple usability.
Perhaps Ather has found a way to use metal panels without making the Konarc too heavy. The final kerb weight will be an important detail to watch at the launch.
In addition, a lower weight could make it easier for family users to move and park the scooter. However, Ather has not revealed the complete specifications yet.

The Ather electric scooter will use the company’s new EL01 platform. Unlike the performance-focused 450 series, the upcoming scooter will follow a simpler design and focus more on everyday family use.
The company is expected to offer more comfort and convenience for regular city rides. Moreover, the Konarc could have a more relaxed performance compared with Ather’s existing sporty electric scooters.
This new approach could help Ather reach buyers who want an electric scooter mainly for daily commuting, family use, and short city trips.
Ather will launch the Konarc on August 29 at its Community Day event in Bengaluru. The company is expected to reveal the scooter’s price, battery details, range, features, and other specifications during the event.
Overall, the use of metal body panels gives the Konarc a different identity even before its launch. However, buyers will need to wait for the official event to know how Ather has balanced the added weight with everyday usability.
