KTM India has quietly launched the much-awaited 390 Adventure R in the Indian market. It is priced at Rs 3.78 lakh (ex-showroom). This new variant is surprisingly more affordable than the standard 390 Adventure. Bookings have already started across KTM dealerships with a fully refundable token amount of Rs 1,999. Let’s know more about this bike in detail.

Lower Price with a Clear Reason

At first, it may seem unusual that the more off-road-focused version costs less than the standard model. However, the reason is simple. The 390 Adventure R uses tube-type spoke wheels instead of the tubeless spoked wheels found on the regular 390 Adventure. This change helps reduce costs while also staying true to KTM’s international-spec Adventure R and Enduro R models.

In addition, the R variant features a proper 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel setup. These wheels are wrapped in knobby-pattern Mitas tyres, which are better suited for rough trails and loose surfaces. As a result, riders can expect improved grip and control when riding off the road.

Engine and Features Remain Familiar

The 390 Adventure R continues with the 399cc single-cylinder engine producing around 44-46bhp and 39Nm of torque. It comes paired with a six-speed gearbox and a bi-directional quickshifter. In addition, the electronics and feature list remain similar to the regular Adventure.

Built for Serious Off-Roading

The biggest highlight of the KTM 390 Adventure R is its upgraded suspension. It gets high-spec WP Apex suspension with 230mm of travel at both the front and rear. In comparison, the standard model offers slightly lower travel. This improvement should deliver better shock absorption and stability on broken roads and trails.

However, the added suspension travel also increases the bike’s overall height. The seat height now stands at 870mm, and ground clearance rises to 272mm. This makes the bike tall, but it also underlines its strong off-road focus. Perhaps taller riders will find it more comfortable, while shorter riders may need some getting used to.

Visually, the Adventure R stands out with its orange trellis frame and fresh graphics. Apart from these details, the bodywork remains similar to the standard model. The bike is offered in a single white and orange colour scheme.
