Bajaj Auto is preparing to increase production capacity for the Chetak electric scooter after strong demand during FY26. The company crossed major sales milestones while expanding dealership reach across India. Moreover, Bajaj Auto also started exporting Chetak scooters to new overseas markets recently.
The company reported growth across electric scooters, premium motorcycles, and commercial vehicles during the fourth quarter. Company executives stated that higher electric vehicle demand and stronger exports are expected to support future business growth across domestic and international markets.
Bajaj Auto recorded higher sales across electric scooters, premium motorcycles, and export operations during FY26. The company said stronger customer demand pushed Chetak sales to new milestones across domestic markets. Moreover, Bajaj Auto also reported growth in Latin America, Asian markets, and electric three-wheeler operations. Company executives believe premium products and electric mobility will continue supporting business expansion during the coming quarters.

Bajaj Auto confirmed that it is preparing a major expansion plan for Chetak production capacity. The company currently averages nearly 35,000 electric scooter sales every month across India. However, supply-related limitations affected the company’s ability to meet rising customer demand during several months. Towards the end of the fourth quarter, monthly production capacity increased to nearly 50,000 units.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, said, “We are taking steps. There is some serious work going on to see how and where we should expand capacity in a quantum manner. But yes, we have now reached a position where we think a substantive increase in capacity in Chetak is needed.”
The company admitted that production and supply chain issues affected its overall market share growth recently. However, Bajaj Auto expects stronger performance if supplier-related concerns remain under control during upcoming quarters. The company believes demand for electric scooters continues growing steadily across urban markets.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, said, “Sometimes we also get exasperated that everything is not working in every department and every month. And therefore, we have not been able to reach our potential, which I think is much higher in terms of share.”
The Chetak electric scooter recorded strong retail performance during the fourth quarter of FY26 across India. Bajaj Auto crossed one lakh retail sales during a single quarter for the first time. Moreover, March became the company’s biggest monthly sales period after retail numbers crossed 50,000 units. The newly launched Chetak C25 variant also supported higher demand among younger buyers.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, said, “The e-scooter segment grew by 40 per cent in Q4 and has continued to grow at an even higher rate of 60 per cent plus in April.”
During FY26, Chetak crossed the 5-lakh sales milestone within the Indian electric scooter market. Bajaj Auto also expanded its dealership network to more than 500 exclusive stores nationwide. In addition, the company operates nearly 3,000 shared motorcycle dealerships across 850 cities throughout India presently.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, said, “This gives our network a reach which is both wide and deep, but it continues to deliver the differentiated sales and service experience that the brand is built around.”
Bajaj Auto reported strong export growth across multiple international markets during FY26 operations. The company recorded export revenue of $2.2 billion, marking its highest yearly export income till date. Moreover, Asian markets including Sri Lanka, Nepal, and the Philippines also contributed higher business volumes recently.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, said, “Latin America continues to outperform, delivering sustained growth for 11 consecutive quarters.”
Back in India, Bajaj Auto reported stronger growth across premium motorcycle categories during recent months. The refreshed Pulsar lineup supported market share gains across multiple regions during the second half of FY26. The company introduced ten updated variants between October and March across several motorcycle categories.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, said, “We now see a clear turnaround in our performance in the sports segment.”
Bajaj Auto also maintained leadership within the electric three-wheeler segment during recent quarters across India. The company said electric mobility businesses are contributing a larger share to overall domestic revenue. Despite inflation concerns and softer demand during April, Bajaj Auto expects electric vehicles and premium motorcycles to continue supporting future business growth.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, said, “Our 2-and 3-wheeler electric business is actually now the largest in the auto industry, accounting for almost 20 per cent plus of our domestic revenues.”
