Honda is preparing a fresh electric scooter for India after facing challenges with earlier models. However, the company now aims to improve range, features, and daily usability. This upcoming electric scooter will be based on a new platform and focus on local production. Therefore, Honda plans to price it more competitively for Indian buyers. With strong rivals already present, this new model will be important for Honda’s electric future.
Honda’s earlier electric scooters did not meet buyer expectations in India. However, concerns around range, charging ease, and pricing limited their appeal. As a result, sales remained slow, and production was eventually paused. Therefore, Honda has decided to rethink its approach for the Indian electric two-wheeler space.
The upcoming Honda electric scooter will use the new J1H platform. Moreover, this platform has been developed keeping Indian roads and usage needs in mind. Honda is also working on another global electric scooter platform. However, that international project will be used mainly after 2027.
Honda plans to use heavily localised parts for the new electric scooter. Hence, production costs are expected to stay under control. This approach should help Honda offer a more competitive price. In addition, local sourcing may improve service support and spare availability across regions.
The new scooter is expected to offer improved real-world riding range. Moreover, underseat storage is likely to be more usable for daily commuting needs. Home charging support is also expected to be standard. Therefore, charging convenience should improve compared to Honda’s earlier electric scooters.
This electric scooter will compete with models from TVS, Bajaj, Ather, and Vida. However, Honda has not confirmed an exact launch date yet. Reports suggest an India debut could happen by the end of this year. More details are expected closer to the launch.
